Black Bull Bozeman Custom Home Building Progress Report 1

January 24, 2014

Black Bull Bozeman Lot 216 Western view
Black Bull Bozeman Lot 216 Western view

The Teton Heritage Builder team has been working hard on getting the Lot 216 project up and moving at Black Bull Subdivision in Bozeman.  This home, designed by Talus Architects of Bozeman, MT, will be going on the market in the next few months.  It is a stick framed home with timber details both inside and out.  The Great Room offers fantastic views of the Spanish Peaks mountain range, that you can see upon entering the home through the foyer.  It is a 4 bedroom home with open concept Kitchen, Dining and Great Room space.  The Great Room is vaulted to capitalize on the grand room feeling.

The home has a very nice sized Master bedroom on the main floor with a huge walk-in closet and master bathroom.  It faces towards the same views of the Spanish Peaks that the Great Room does.  There is an additional bedroom on the main floor with it’s own bathroom as well.  An office, laundry room and mudroom complete the first floor in a tremendous layout.  In addition, the home features a 3 car garage.

On the second floor, there are 2 additional bedrooms, a rec room and an additional full bathroom.  The rec room features a vaulted ceiling as well and is perfectly suited as a TV area.

One of the best things about the home is it’s location.  Situated on a fantastic Estate lot in the Black Bull subdivision, which is home to a premier Tom Weiskopf designed golf course, this lot backs up to open space, and, therefore, will never have a home located behind it.  It is very close to Bozeman, MT, and within driving distance of 2 phenomenal ski resorts, Bridger Creek and Big Sky.

This home embodies all that Teton Heritage holds dear in our business:  Creating Legacy homes with an attention to detail and quality that is unsurpassed in our markets.

Stay tuned for more pictures, as the project progresses.

Big Sky Floorplans

August 20, 2013

ER75-Color-Rendering-WebWe get requests frequently from prospective clients who want to see Big Sky floorplans.  Folks want to understand how our homes are laid out and get a feel for what their Big Sky log cabin or timber frame home might look like.  We completely understand the situation and more often than not have to rely on simply describing home plans to clients because we don’t own the architectural design to give out.

Over the last 17 years of building in Jackson Hole and Southwest Montana Teton Heritage Builders has built some gorgeous spec homes.  Many of these homes went on to be published in coffee table books and magazines such as Ralph Kylloe’s Cabins & Camps, Cowboys and Indians, and Custom Wood Homes.  And it is now our pleasure to make the architectural drawings available for you to spend time with.

Teton Heritage Builders is very proud to showcase projects under construction in Bozeman, MT and Big Sky, MT.  These timber frame cabins both have stunning views of the Spanish Peaks range and feature an open floorplan designed for entertaining.  When you take into account the secluded master suites and accompanying guest quarters, these homes are quintessential homes of Big Sky Country.

Top 10 Features in Luxury Homes

July 23, 2013

The results are in.  The people have spoken.  We now have a list of the top 10 features in luxury homes.  Topping the list is a warming drawer in the kitchen!

The National Association of Home Builders recently conducted an analysis of the hottest features in luxury homes valued at or above $500,000.  After analyzing national data on over 120 home features, the NAHB released the list of the ten most desirable features.  The list is as follows:

  1. Warming drawer in kitchenARCD-7313
  2. Two story family room
  3. Kitchen with wine cooler
  4. An outdoor kitchen
  5. Two story entry foyer
  6. An elevator
  7. A wet bar
  8. An exercise room
  9. Home in golf course community
  10. A game room

If you put all of these features into a single building I can see how it can be considered a luxury home.  But not everybody desires each and every one of these homes features.  As Big Sky and Jackson Hole builders we love to bring our clients’ dreams into reality.  So if  our client’s dream home includes an exercise room then we will absolutely build it!

Teton Heritage Builders works with progressive Jackson Hole and Big Sky architects to make creative home ideas a reality.  We have retrofitted homes with elevators, built hidden passages, made a wooden ship in a play room, and built full wine rooms in our homes.  The only limit to what we can build is the imagination.

Save Money Building in Montana and Wyoming

June 20, 2013

big sky custom builderIt is no secret that the US economy is rebounding.  And with the uptick we are experiencing ripple effects on the housing market in Montana and Wyoming.  People are motivated to buy existing properties and build new homes.  The time to build is right now.  Homeowners  need to be aware that starting to build immediately can save money building in Montana and Wyoming.  Why?  Let’s look at the supply and demand curves for the building industry.

The country is beginning to realize shortages of certain building materials.  Demand for building products has been low since the economic downturn in 2008 and suppliers throttled back production levels accordingly.  With the lull in the market there was no need to keep an overstock of materials and wait for the boom.  Now that we are in the early stages of another housing boom those same suppliers cannot keep pace with the current demand for their products.

A nationwide survey by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) revealed that suppliers of oriented strand board (OSB), wall board, framing lumber and plywood cannot keep the shelves stocked.  In turn, the market prices for these materials is beginning to rise.  Today’s rate of building is just above 50 percent of what it was in 2004.  When the market grows to those same 2004 levels we could see huge hikes in material pricing.  The same NAHB study shows that building materials today are already 5 percent higher than they were just six months ago.

So what does this mean for the homeowner?  Build now.  Seize the present opportunity to buy materials for your home at lower prices than they will be a year or two from today.  It will take time for material suppliers to ramp up production to keep pace with the housing market.  You can either wait for prices to stabilize and come down or make moves towards getting into your new home sooner than later. Save money building your dream home by breaking ground as soon as you can.

Luxury Big Sky Log Cabins Published in Big Sky Journal Home Magazine

June 13, 2013

Big Sky log cabinsThere is a sense of nostalgia when you step into a log cabin.  You can feel the grandeur of the trees from which the house was made.  You can imagine yourself as a pioneer meticulously crafting your log cabin to protect your family from the elements.  And though the craft of building log cabins is diminishing, there is still a faction of custom builders in the Northern Rockies that aren’t giving up on perfecting Big Sky log cabins.

The craftsmen at Teton Heritage Builders continue the tradition of erecting custom log cabins in Wyoming and Montana.  Since 1996 we have dedicated a significant amount of time to making log cabins in just about every style there is out there – from the Lost Creek Cabin that emulates an old ranger cabin in Yellowstone National Park to expansive log cabins meant for entertaining large groups.  We have built traditional log stack cabins, log post and beam cabins, and have even built our share of conventionally framed homes with aesthetic log accents.  Over the past 17 years we have become the premier builder of Big Sky log cabins.

Foxtail Residence – Custom Big Sky Log Cabin

Teton Heritage Builders’ Foxtail Residence at The Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana was recently featured among the best custom Big Sky log cabins in the Big Sky Journal Home magazine.  This traditional log cabin is the definition of rustic living in the Northern Rockies.  Featuring a full log frame package, the Foxtail Residence has a crow’s nest for panoramic views of both Pioneer Mountain and Lone Peak.  Additionally, the log cabin boasts a guest suite above the unattached garage.

A quick peak into the great room and one can’t help but notice the captivating hand railings leading upstairs – they look as if alder is growing out of the stone steps.   The steps themselves and the fireplace are an impressive mass of stacked stone.  The kitchen is designed around a center island to accommodate entertaining large groups.  This Big Sky log cabin will surely inspire any visitor to set their roots in Big Sky Country.

Please take a moment to read the Big Sky Journal Home article and see more gorgeous photos of this iconic Big Sky log cabin.  And if you would like to pick our brains more about log cabin designs or talk about log cabin layouts please send us an email or give us a call!
