Teton Heritage Builders is near completion of an exciting project located outside of Helena, Montana. Perched above Canyon Ferry Lake, this home features elegant timber design features that seamlessly blend it into the rugged landscape.
One interior feature we are especially pleased with is the groin vault in the wine cellar. A building technique that is first credited to the Romans, groin vaults are when two semicircular barrel vaults of the same diameter cross one another their intersection (a true ellipse) is known as a groin, down which the thrust of the vault is carried to the cross walls. This type of vault is specifically designed to hold its own structural weight. Structural support is a great feature when you hand finish the ceiling with intricate tiling as we did in this cellar. It really is a sight to behold. Trust me.
Underneath of this magnificent groin vault sits hand made wine racks, custom iron entry gates, a wet bar fashioned from a recycled oak wine barrel, and a comfortable space for hosting a dinner or wine tasting. Full climate control will ensure the collection lasts until the optimal aging period is achieved. What an incredible space!
Once the trim is finished I will post pictures both here and on our Houzz profile. In the mean time take a look at our other projects.
